Some places heal. Some places harm.
Location Effect explores one deceptively simple question: how much does where we live shape how we feel?
Across buildings, towns, and entire regions, people with chronic or unexplained symptoms often report dramatic changes in their health after relocating. Sometimes nothing else changes. No new treatment. No new diet. No major lifestyle intervention. Just the location.
We explore the environmental factors that may help explain those differences, including air quality, mold, pesticides, industrial pollution, building conditions, water, land use, microbial environments, and the many exposures that make one place feel entirely different from another.
This publication brings together research, personal stories, field observations, environmental reporting, and the experiences of people around the world who are paying attention to place.

Help us map the Location Effect
The Location Effect Map was created to document where people feel better, worse, or simply different, and to look for patterns that may otherwise remain invisible.
Your experience matters. One observation may seem anecdotal. Hundreds or thousands of observations can begin to reveal something much larger.
